A Letter from the Secretary General

Dear Delegates and Advisors,

Welcome to Cornell Model United Nations Conference China 2019! It is both a privilege and an honor to serve as your Secretary-General for this conference, alongside an incredibly hard working Secretariat, passionate Directors and Assistant Directors, and our highly capable local partner, WELAND. We are all excited to host this iteration of CMUNC China in Zhuji, China from August 19-21, 2019 at the Hailiang Foreign Language School. We know with great confidence that each of you will find this conference both rewarding and enjoyable.

Building on the success of last year’s CMUNC China 2018, we look forward to working diligently to create more stimulating committees full of high-level debate and collaborative opportunities for all delegates. This year, in addition to the conference, we are hosting a pre-conference training camp from August 15-18, 2019. We hope this unique feature will provide an opportunity for delegates to learn more about Model United Nations and hone their diplomacy and debating skills in a collaborative environment.

Our goal is to provide opportunities for professional skill development and cross-cultural networking in a welcoming and constructive learning environment. As part of the standard for our long-standing on-campus conference, CMUNC, we also value delegate and advisor feedback to ensure high satisfaction throughout the conference. Should you have any questions or concerns, you can always rely on our team to give them their full attention. Additionally, please feel free to contact me at chinasg@thecias.org anytime before, during or after the conference and expect a prompt response addressing the topics at hand.

At CMUNC China, we offer a range of exciting committees that are structured to both challenge MUN veterans and to also provide opportunities for new participants to learn and grow. Each committee will be facilitated by a Cornell student Director that has been carefully selected as a result of their previous administrative and competitive MUN experience, along with their passion for MUN and eagerness for engaging in cross-cultural experiences. Our Directors come from diverse backgrounds and majors, connected through a passion for international affairs, and are happy to share their knowledge throughout the weekend.

This year, we will be hosting CMUNC China 2019 in Zhuji, China, a city in the Zhejiang Province. As a city filled with beautiful national parks and scenic destinations, Zhuji will serve as an exciting backdrop for our conference. We encourage both delegates and advisors to enjoy the region and take time to explore the city and province.

On behalf of the entire team, I personally want to invite you to join us in Zhuji for the incredible conference CMUNC China 2019 will undoubtedly be. I am excited to welcome you all to a wonderful training program and conference experience in August.
